Dublin's Darklight Digital Festival - Straylight
This year's festival sees the launch of "Straylight" online exhibition. The exhibition "aims to explore and develop the web based exhibition space from both a curatorial viewpoint and from the viewpoint of the artist working to the ever-shifting boundaries and opportunities presented by this medium".
Glorious Ninth's recently completed piece 'Who_Owns_Them_Controls' is included in the exhibition.
This year Darklight will be launching an online art exhibition on the 17th of November, Straylight.
Straylight aims to explore and develop the web based exhibition space from both a curatorial viewpoint and from the viewpoint of the artist working to the ever-shifting boundaries and opportunities presented by this medium.
Straylight invites artists to explore this world and the challenges it presents. Please send any queries regarding this to straylight@darklight-filmfestival.com
Also on display will be some of the graduate work from the Interactive Media department in Dunlaoighre Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
At the launch there will be a music and visual performance by CjC, electronic musician Conor Curran composer of the soundtrack for Asylum Productions ‘Kiss of Life’ which premiered at the Galway film festival in July. Conor has designed and programmed a Java graphics application, ‘Parallel’. The program uses generative techniques to create and vary the visual output.
CjC is Dublin based electronic musician Conor Curran. Earlier this summer, CjC completed the soundtrack for ASYLUM Productions 'Kiss of Life' which premiered at the Galway film festival in July. Currently, CjC's 'In Between' is included on Roger Doyle's Silvodoor records compilation 'By the New Time' also along with works by Donnacha Dennehy featuring Joanna McGregor, Roger Doyle and Michael Alcorn. Conor also performed this piece live at the Diversions festival in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar on August 17. The Dance Theatre of Ireland is also using two of Conor's pieces, 'No input' and 'In Between', in their current production ('Evidence') which also features music by Arvo Paert and Judith Ring.
Due out at the end November is a split 12 " with CjC and Canadian Buckminster Fuzeboard on Dublin's Psychonavigation records. CjC's three tracks are created with found sounds like sandpaper and elastic bands, compiled with complex rhythms and abstruse melodies. They represent a sample of CjC's completed but as yet unreleased full-length album, FORM. Later this year, CjC is included on the third Front End Synthetics compilation on vinyl and CD and on the forthcoming psychonavigation records compilation due out early next year.
Conor has just completed the Masters programme in Music and Media Technologies at Trinity College Dublin. Within the Masters project, Conor designed and programmed the Java graphics application, 'Parallel'. The program uses generative techniques to create and vary the visual output. Image creation and movement is controlled via MIDI messages that can be sequenced on a sequencer (i.e Cubase) along with other MIDI data for synths and samplers etc. This program allows CjC's live performance's to be accompanied with unique/customised visuals.
CjC can be contacted at info@forwind.net or go to www.forwind.net for music and software downloads.
Also performing will be Philip Stewart with visual refreshment provided LIVE by Tim Redfern using his Pixelcorps software. Old-school two dimensional effects, layered live, responding to music.
